In October 2017 Royal Auckland and Grange commenced the redevelopment of its golf course and clubhouse. This $66m project will see a new 27 hole Nicklaus design golf course, a state of the art, classical contemporary clubhouse and a fully-fledged driving range and short game practice area.
In 2019 we were tasked with project of constructing the pumphouse and irrigation facility for the new golf course. Situated in the middle of the shed is a 3.5m deep wet well that is fed from a nearby lake. The water from this well is then pumped out of the entire property to irrigate and fertilise the course during the whole year.
Transporting power from a transformer, located on the road, to the pump shed required direct drill thrusting five separate ducts 110m underground. Given the scale of the work, we ran into ground condition issues, leading to multiple redesigns. Having a close working relationship with our contractors was imperative to overcoming these issues and ensuring that progress was maintained throughout the project.
The pump shed is discreet and sophisticated as it is situated below one of the greens. The shed was carefully positioned and built into the side of the hill, achieved through a significant amount of retaining. The roofing and cladding of the pump shed was finished in Eurostyle Span Lock cladding in Karaka Green and landscaping was carefully designed to help the shed disappear into its surroundings.
