Contemporary, open-plan living areas, kitchen and bathrooms ensure that despite the traditional character, this Grey Lynn villa is well suited to modern living.
A brief to transform a traditional Grey Lynn villa into a modern family home revealed a range of challenges relating to both design and structure. The villa featured a dated layout, so in order to allow contemporary indoor and outdoor living, it needed to be reconfigured.
In changing the layout of the villa, we were able to create a new family bathroom, ensuite and open plan living room with large sliding doors leading onto a large entertaining deck and a beautifully tiered landscaped garden.
In order to give the owners two new bathrooms, we made modifications to the chimney and removed the stack and base – adding a whole set of complexities to the build.
As with any bathroom renovation, there were a lot of sub contractors required to complete the build. Managing these sub contractors and ensuring they were onsite working alongside each other where required was crucial to keeping the job on time and on budget.
As we weren’t simply renovating an existing bathroom but creating two new bathrooms in a completely different part of the house, the existing plumbing needed to be moved,adding another level of reliance and trust on our sub-contractors.
